IT’S a long time since any team from this area played in the premiere Gippsland tennis competition, but that’s what Inverloch is doing this year.
Initially they planned to put two teams into the comp, one led by Jack Clements and the other by David Bulbulian but they couldn’t quite get the players they needed and only one team went in, with Bulbulian picked up to play in one of the Traralgon teams.
Last Saturday, Inverloch was at home to Morwell and while Jack Clements continued on his winning ways, after a thrilling win over Josh Charlton the week before, they found the overall strength of Morwell a bit too much on the day.
Inverloch hosts Sale at Inverloch this Saturday and if you want to see some good local tennis, it’s the place to be.
ALLAMBEE & DISTRICT
Inverloch won all the sets against Leongatha North. Good to see Shane Harris and Dane O’Neill in these two teams. Phillip Island was the winner against Koonwarra. Koonwarra won a ladies set. Inverloch and Phillip Island are stand out teams early in the season.
Outtrim won by 20 games. Good to see Maurita Carlisle playing with her daughter Emma. Korumburra won by 10 games against Leongatha Green, with young players in both teams. Koonwarra won by three games against Baromi Black. Baromi Yellow won 5/4. The games were level, but the sets went against Berrys Creek.
The Parrots won the match against Baromi. Tamsin McCormick and Kelly McCarthy won the set against Zara Littlejohn and Luke Marshman. The rallies were so good to watch. A season of this tennis will see Zara and Luke winning. Rachel Carlisle played well with her partners to win her sets. Baromi won two sets. Section 3 is a good step up for the junior players. Hawks and Eagles match was won by the Eagles by 14 games. The Hawks won two sets. Alicia Marshman and Tamara Treacy won their sets.
Saturday tennis has become a family sport again. It is so pleasing for everyone, the clubs, and the association.
