One of the big issues at the recent council elections was staff costs.
It is no wonder when you see positions advertised such as Coordinator Aged and Disability Services for South Gippsland Shire.
I understand aged and disability services is basically federally funded and perhaps it’s useful to have a local contact but a $113,390 total package, with vehicle available (whatever available entails) seems a lot to those ratepayers on low incomes.
Perhaps coordinating is more difficult than one might think. Perhaps you need a tertiary qualification to coordinate or perhaps a high salary is just to help justify the even higher salaries of department managers.
Best of luck to our new council in reining in staff costs.
Steve Finlay, Leongatha.
