THE Korumburra-Bena Giants received a great Christmas present, with the club signing talented big man Jesse Henderson for 2017.
A former member of the Hallam Academy with Giants coach Ben McGee, Henderson was runner-up twice in the under 18 competition best and fairest, before focusing on basketball.
After playing BigV basketball, he played for St Kilda City in the Division One Southern FNL.
Henderson was reunited with Ben at Clayton in 2013, and took out the 2014 senior best and fairest in a landslide.
He was leading the 2015 best and fairest and was in the hunt for the league best and fairest, before an ankle injury derailed his season.
He switched to Heatherton in the Division Two Southern FNL and was nominated for the interleague team, but a trip to Europe meant he was unavailable for selection.
McGee said on Facebook that Henderson was an athlete he had admired for 10 years.
“Whilst his athletic ability is something that you will witness first hand, I would have to say that he is a strong young man with outstanding character and it his character that will leave the biggest legacy on our club,” he said.
“I am stoked he is on board. Assets for us will be his marking and his endurance.
“I can’t wait to see him at our first bounce against Inverloch.”
