MORE than 150 runners from across Victoria will descend on Kilcunda on the morning of Sunday, February 5 for the third annual Kilcunda Half Marathon and George Bass Coastal Trail 17km fun run.
The event will start at 7am and features a variety of short and long courses.
This year for the first time the event will work in conjunction with disability service provider Marriott Support Services to facilitate an 8km out and back fun run and an all-abilities 2km run/walk/wheelchair event, opening up this fantastic piece o Victorian coastline to people who might not normally experience it.
The community-focused fun run is not only attracting runners from Melbourne, but also local runners from Inverloch, Leongatha, Rosedale, Tyabb, Berwick and Langwarrin.
Starting at the foreshore reserve adjacent to the Caravan Park, runners will enjoy stunning coastal views on one side with the rolling hills of South Gippsland on the other, as they run along a grassy track before hitting the beach and climbing up to Punchbowl Road.
At the turnaround point there will be refreshments before the 17km and 21km runners return to the start/finish line for the race finish and presentations.
Variations to the course include:
* 2km – all abilities out and back course (1km each way) from the foreshore reserve and over the Kilcunda Bridge.
• 8km – out and back course on the George Bass Coastal trail (4km each way).
• 17km – runners follow the George Bass Coastal trail to Punchbowl Rd before returning to the start (8.5km each way).
• 21km – runners start with an additional 4km out and back on the rail trail over the Kilcunda Bridge.
Organised by local business Running Wild, the Kilcunda Half marathon is pitched as an introduction to trail running.
The run offers some of the best coastal trails in the state and gives road runners, beginner trail runners or more experienced trail runners a great opportunity to stretch their legs and enjoy an afternoon with family and friends, as well as an introduction to trail running in a safe environment.
The Kilcunda Half Marathon raises funds in support of Marriott Support Services which is a leading provider of client focused disability support services in Victoria.
It works with people with disabilities to help them enjoy life in the community.
Marriott recognise that getting a job and building trusting and supportive relationships are integral elements to assisting clients to take their place as contributing members of society.
The organisation strives to provide hope and the opportunity for people with a disability to take their place in our community, but it is a long road with people needing ongoing support in terms of building skills, developing confidence and learning where they can make a positive contribution.
Runners are encouraged to raise funds in support of Marriott as part of giving back to the community, and online donations can be made at
Entries can be made online at or on the day until 6.30am.
