• A Grade, Division 1
A SIX-WICKET effort by Wonthaggi Club’s Ryan Thomas has stitched up a big win over Leongatha Town in A Grade Division One at Scorpion Park Turf.
Club was in the box seat after posting 283 last week, but Town was in with a shot at 1/101 before Thomas wreaked havoc.
He had opener Jack Hume caught for 38 and later broke the dangerous partnership of Madura Weerasinghe and Amila Ratnaike when Weerasinghe was caught behind for 35.
Club continued to pick up regular wickets thanks to Thomas, and spinner James Sheerin chipped in with 2/36 off 13 overs.
Thomas eventually got the prized scalp of Ratnaike for 56 and the Scorpions’ innings quickly came to a close, all out for 172 in the 54th over.
He finished with imposing figures of 6/45 off 20 overs including eight maidens.
Club batted for six overs to end the day and notched 0/46, with Koby Brann hitting five fours and two sixes for 34 not out, and Alex Geyer hitting three fours in his 12 not out.
An unbeaten 76 by Nerrena’s Tim Wightman has led the Red Caps to a tight win over OMK at Leongatha Turf.
Chasing 210, the Red Caps started shakily at 2/36 before Wightman and Gerard Murphy put them in a winning position with a 67-run stand.
Murphy’s dismissal for 42 brought the match back on level pegging, but contributions from Dave Baldi (26) and Jamie Cann (22) helped Wightman steer his side across the line with three overs remaining.
Nathan Cant was the pick of the OMK bowlers with 2/32 off 14 overs.
Inverloch fell 28 runs short of Korumburra’s total at Inverloch Turf.
The Stingrays looked shot at 4/38, but a 50-run partnership between Dave Newman and Will Rankin boosted their chances.
Luke Zanchetta turned the match again in the Cobras’ favour when he trapped Newman lbw for 40, including five fours, which proved to be the key wicket of the day.
Wickets continued to fall and when Rankin was bowled by Shane Dole for 25, the Stingrays were staring down the barrel of defeat at 7/102.
Tom McQualter (22) and Ben Thomas (29) did their best to give the Stingrays an unlikely hope, but they were eventually all out for 162 in the 74th over.
Dole bowled well with 3/46 off 22.3 overs including six maidens, while Zanchetta finished with 3/58 off 23 overs including seven maidens.
Phillip Island were no match for Kilcunda-Bass at Bass.
Chasing 139, the Island lost regular wickets and had few contributors apart from opener Lochie Cleeland (36) and tailender Geoff Odgers (28).
The visitors were bowled out for 109 in the 62nd over.
Jacob Dakin led the way with 3/34 off 14 overs including five maidens and James Mahood picked up 2/10 off 6.3 overs including three maidens.

GLEN Alvie has held on for a thrilling seven-run victory over Poowong-Loch in A Grade Division Two at Butch West Oval.
Poowong-Loch resumed at 0/15 after they bowled out Glen Alvie for 162 and batted for 12 overs last week.
Spinner Kelvin Simpson made the early breakthrough when he had Aaron Bardwell caught, before he had Wilson Pollock stumped for a duck.
The visitors were quickly struggling at 5/70 with the Glen Alvie bowlers on top.
Middle order batsman Colin Knox set about rebuilding the innings but he struggled to find a partner, until number 10 Matt Hancock stepped up to the plate.
The pair took the score to 152, before Jamie Glen removed Knox for 42.
Hancock quickly followed when he was bowled by David Hales, which spelled the end of Poowong-Loch’s chase.
Glen proved to be the difference in the contest, snaring 4/27 off 19.2 overs, including nine maidens.
Simpson was also an important factor with 3/47 off 22 overs.
Skipper Jake Guinan’s five wickets helped Koonwarra-Leongatha RSL to a strong win over Wonthaggi Miners at Wonthaggi Football Ground.
The Miners started well with an opening stand of 116 between Jason O’Reilly and Blake Andrighetto, before Andrighetto was caught behind for 66 including eight fours and a six.
From there the Miners struggled, with O’Reilly bowled by Jack Hale for 47, sparking a collapse of 8/56 to be all out for 186 in the 66th over.
Josh Andrighetto watched on as wickets tumbled around him, remaining 36 not out.
Guinan was a menace with the ball, picking up 5/55 off 24.4 overs including eight maidens.
