TORQUAY Boardriders Club have taken top honours at the final round of the Australian Boardriders Battle on Saturday, January 7 at Cape Woolamai, Phillip Island.
With perfect offshore conditions and two to three foot of swell, clubs were treated to some fantastic waves under some intense Victorian sunshine.
After some underwhelming performances in previous years, Torquay Boardriders Club came in to the event with no intention of leaving empty handed.
However the opening rounds did not go Torquay’s way with reigning champions Peninsula Surfriders Club taking the opening Skins heats and Women’s round to claim an early lead on the back of some incredible surfing from Georgia Fish and Caiden Fowler.
Torquay was able to claw its way back as the morning progressed, showing their depth of talent in the Teams event and also with power surfer Cody Robinson putting on an impressive display in the second round of Skins heats.
Torquay Boardriders Club finished on a point total of 8400 points in front of Peninsula on 7187 points.
Both Torquay and Peninsula will claim spots in the Australian Boardriders Battle National Final at Narrabeen, NSW in February.
Placing in third place overall was 13th Beach Boardriders Club on 6875 points.
Home club, Phillip Island finished fourth on 6312 points with Portland finishing in fifth on 5548 points.
