THE Wonthaggi Show and Shine Swap Meet is back again this Australia Day weekend, with the popular event locked in for Sunday January 29.
The major fundraiser for the Wonthaggi Power Football Netball Club is held at the Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve, and features Custom Cars, Hot Rods, Pick-ups, Motorbikes and Off-road Vehicles, with over 10 prize categories.
The fourth edition of the event will have a greater display of army vehicles organised by Peter Tack, after the popularity of the army trucks in recent years.
A new feature of this year’s event will be a sunset cruise on Saturday January 28, and all show cars are invited to join in the fun.
Drivers will meet at the Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve at 5pm, before taking off as a convoy along Lynns Road to Inverloch, cruising along The Esplanade and Ramsay Boulevard to Cape Paterson, then back to the Power clubrooms for a $15 two-course meal.
Organiser Tracey Jones said the Power is excited to introduce a couple of changes to this year’s format.
“There’s a new category this year, Best Barn Find, for cars that haven’t had any restoration,” she said.
“It’s for vehicles that people tow in on a trailer and won’t be running but it’s the owner’s new project.
“There’s a lot out there who think their vehicle is nowhere near ready to be in any category and it opens it up to more people.
“We’ve altered motorbikes to one category of people’s choice and we have some forms there to write the number of motorbike that’s best in show. It gets the crowd a little bit more involved with it as well.”
There will be a jumping castle for the kids, barbeque and canteen on site, and new additions of Mr Whippy and donut vans.
Gates open at 6am for stallholders and exhibitors and competition cars must be entered before 9.30am.
A seller site is available for $10 pre-booked or $15 on the day, while exhibitor vehicles and drivers entry is $10.
Breakfast and lunch will be available and winners will be announced at 12 noon. Public entry is $5 from 8am and children under 15 are free.
