Contrary to recent media reports, and various social media postings, there was no fire at the desalination plant on the evening of March 12.
An alarm was triggered due to a component becoming overheated.
In this instance, the alarm did exactly what it is designed to do and brought attention to the issue.
Consistent with our safety first approach our alarm system is connected to the local CFA, and they responded accordingly.
The plant was shut down temporarily as a precaution while an investigation was undertaken and the issue resolved.
The plant resumed usual operations within two hours and water production is progressing.
