DING, ding! The time has come for Gippsland to show off its talented boxers.
The inter-club exhibition sparring bouts at Wonthaggi Boxing Club are on this Saturday, July 1 and it’s expected to draw in large crowds.
Wonthaggi Boxing Club coach Scott Williamson said for some of the boxers, it’ll be their first sparring session.
“It’ll be full-contact sparring and there’ll be no winners or losers,” he said.
“There will be different weights, so from 38kg going right through up to 100kg.”
The fundraiser is an energetic, inspiring event bringing together boxers from clubs in Leongatha, Officer and Warragul.
Scott said the funds raised will help when the club has to move out of the old Miners Rest Hotel to a new venue, still to be confirmed.
“If there’s no backup for us, the club will probably try and pay for it itself.
“We got many fundraisers ahead of us, but we’re willing to do it if we can’t get the help.”
The event kicks off at 4pm and club shirts will be for sale, as well as food and non-alcoholic drinks.
If you’re interested in boxing, head over to the Wonthaggi Boxing Club at 140 McKenzie Street, Wonthaggi, from 5.30pm onwards, Monday to Friday.
Entry on Saturday is a $20 donation, but there is only room for about 80 people so book in now as spaces are filling quickly.
