UNDEFEATED local AFL Women’s team, the Bass Coast Breakers, are preparing for their round 12 match against Hastings like any other but supporters may notice a big difference on field next weekend come game time.
As part of DonateLife Week, the team will be switching up their regular uniform and donning magenta socks and armbands to honour organ donors and recipients.
The Breakers aren’t the only footballers getting on board to support organ donation, with both the AFL and AFLW leagues joining forces for the important cause and encouraging those who are willing to not only sign up but have the discussion with friends and family.
According to DonateLife, 90 per cent of Australians believe it is important that their family knows their donation decision, but only 51 per cent have discussed the subject with loved ones.
Just 56 per cent have made a decision about becoming a donor. The upcoming game will highlight the huge impact organ donation can make with personal stories from the players being shared. DonateLife staff will be on hand for the day to assist those wishing to sign up or ask any further questions.
DonateLife Week runs from Sunday, July 30 to Sunday, August 6. To register your organ donation decision, go to www.register.donatelife.org.au.
