The Bass Coast Shire Council over the last 10-15 years have been fairly proactive with the release of greenfield sites for residential development, but I believe we are now at the point where more affordable land must be re-zoned for residential development.
This is paramount for the continued development of the island and surrounding areas.
Access to land supply has many flow-on effects to the local economy, most importantly being jobs for the many local tradesmen that live on the Island and in the surrounding areas.
Affordable land supply has also many social advantages. Previously the Housing Industry Association has advocated that there are many positive social outcomes associated with home ownership that assist in allowing homeowners to participate in society to their full economic and social potential.
Whilst tourism is important to the area, the council should not neglect other economic drivers that are important to the growth and the development of the area.
