Well done to John Kennedy for raising the idea of converting the old railway line into a bike path between Korumburra and Leongatha.
This is a great idea and will create a safe place for kids and adults to ride their bikes.
The bike path could also be used by walkers with their dogs and people with prams being able to stroll along and safely enjoy the environment.
Imagine being able to ride your bike from Korumburra to Leongatha and back again without the ever-present fear of passing cars and trucks, surely a nice outing with a rewarding coffee and muffin at the end?
This also will make Korumburra the start point for the Great Southern Rail Trail for those bike riders looking for more of a challenge – this potentially brings greater tourist benefits for local traders, including the new brewery!
Korumburra is already discussing the site options for the Community Hub, refurbishment of the Korumburra Railway Station and the new supermarket; surely we could add this to the list? Leongatha is also discussing their railway station precinct.
The bike path can continue to Loch, Nyora, Lang Lang, Koo Wee Rup and ultimately Cranbourne.
If at some point the State Government wants to bring back the train service then the permanent-way is still there and ready to go.
John has organised a petition to support the project and can be signed at his store and around town.
I signed it because I want to enjoy bike riding with my family in safety.
John Ornsby, Korumburra.
