PROPOSED changes to Phillip Island Road through both San Remo and Newhaven have generated much discussion among locals, many of whom are clearly not happy with the options put forward by VicRoads.
Bass MP Brian Paynter said he has met with many local people including business owners and residents who believe the options presented either have major flaws or attempt to fix a problem that does not exist.
“What we need right now are the roundabouts at Woolamai Beach Road and Back Beach Road on Phillip Island built. Not more studies.
“The Andrews Labor Government cut the country roads and bridges program when coming to office in 2014 and our local roads have suffered as a result.
“Instead of funding studies, the government should simply get on with funding what is actually needed right now.
“A good place to start would be funding the Back Beach Road intersection heading towards Smiths Beach.
“This intersection is dangerous at the best of times and creates a major bottleneck during peak periods and major events.”
Less talk, more action on roads
