POOWONG welcomed Neerim-Neerim South on Saturday with the weather and ground conducive to good football and both sides made the most of it.
Poowong welcomed back Ben Hancock to the senior side through the loss of Alex Doria.
Poowong kicked to the Drouin end of the ground but it was the Cats who got the game under way with the opening goal.
Ben Hancock then nailed the Magpies’ first of the afternoon but the Cats answered back and regained the lead.
It became the Hancock show when he slotted back to back goals late in the quarter to give the Magpies an eight-point lead at quarter time.
The second quarter started with Hancock’s fourth goal and then a nice pass to teammate Mitch Whiting saw the Magpies have five goals on the board.
Jack Hazendonk kicked the first of his five for the day from outside 50 metres and the Magpies took a 22-point lead into the long break.
The third quarter saw Matt Cozzio and Lachie Green begin to cause headaches for Neerim’s defence and Joseph Bisognin was working hard through the midfield.
Poowong stretched their lead to 40 points at three quarter time and the game looked to be over.
Lachie and Hasendonk both kicked majors in the last to seal the Poowong’s third victory by 58 points.
The Magpies will be hoping Ben Hancock’s hammy was precautionary with tightness and that Tom Wyatt’s groin problem is only minor.
With the return of Alex Doria next week and possibly Michael Harris the Magpies will be building to full strength.
Poowong will be looking to make it four wins on the trot as they take on Buln Buln in an away fixture this weekend.
