VicRoads officers asked truck drivers for their log books, which they checked exhaustively as well as conducting the usual inspections of loads and other safety issues. m142618

A “ROUTINE check” of trucks, especially cattle transports going to and from the Koonwarra saleyards last Thursday by crews from Vicroads, was not a response to recent truck accidents in the area.
Nonetheless, Vicroads stopped dozens of trucks during the period, checking logbooks, weight and security of loads, condition of trucks and associated equipment, the lot.
Officers from Vicroads issued some infringement notices but they found high levels of compliance as well.
“This is something we do regularly,” said Vicroads officers.
But during a full day of inspections in Leongatha, it was clear they were targeting local transport operators.
And no one would argue with that.
