WHEN you’ve written a book about Norm Smith Medallists – awarded to best afield on AFL/VFL grand final day – it’s nice to have the glowing endorsement of a two-time winner.
Leongatha author Dan Eddy’s latest book, The Norm Smith Medallists, was recently released at the MCG with some of the biggest stars in the game, and one of them, Gary Ayres, was happy to visit Dan’s home town for a book signing last week at the Leongatha Newsagency.
A steady stream of footy fans and those looking for a Father’s Day gift purchased copies and had them signed by both Dan and the Hawthorn great whose medals came in 1986 and 1988.
He was the first player to win the Norm Smith Medal twice.
“To have time with Dan during the interview to reflect on things and how they came about was nice.
“To play on footy’s biggest stage is a special time for anyone who’s been there and Dan has done a terrific job in sharing our stories.”
It’s a big meaty book with chapters on all the winners. Dan’s interviewed most of them personally although he said some were as elusive off the field as they were on it.
You can pick up a copy at the Leongatha Newsagency.
