It was with dismay that I read the article last week where the member for Bass Mr Paynter states that the Liberals will match Labor’s commitment to fund the $115 million for the Wonthaggi Hospital upgrade.
For Labor, this has gone far beyond being an election promise. It is funded, it is in the budget, it is happening, designs are being finalised and work begins next year. He knows that as does the Shadow Health Minister.
My concern is that this sends a message that everything already in the budget, unless committed by his party, is at risk of being cut should they be elected in November.
What does this mean for Bass?
The Healesville Koo Wee Rup road duplication, the Monash Stage 2, school upgrades, school land acquisitions, Cape Paterson Surf Club, Wonthaggi SES, Free TAFE courses, head start apprenticeships in secondary schools, food and fibre taskforce, kinder package to build, upgrade and equip are all under threat.
