MOLLY Turner, local netballer from Kongwak, has been playing for Gippsland Storm Elite Development Netball Club for the past two years and her mother Kate said she’s loving every minute of it.
Molly originally started playing netball for Tarwin in Under 11s back in 2015, then progressed to the 13s.
In 2017 Molly was coached by Holly Monaghan in Storm’s 13 and Under squad.
That year they won back to back consecutive grand finals, Autumn and Spring at the Waverley Netball Centre, playing against some of the best tournament squads in Melbourne.
She also won the most improved award for her efforts playing in goals, to add to this Molly was also talent identified for the Gippsland Sports Academy, a very busy year.
This year playing in the 15 and Under age group, autumn season, she won the best and fairest award.
“The whole experience with Storm has shaped her character in so many ways, both on and off the court,” Kate said of her daughter.
“Her resilience, discipline and self-confidence, she really has come out of her shell, competing at such a competitive level.
“Storm has a sponsorship program, so Molly runs around Inverloch and Wonthaggi, calling on local traders to sponsor her, she got six sponsors, I couldn’t believe it.
“As a netballer over the last two years, she has improved at an extraordinary rate, she just loves what she’s doing with a passion.
“Each week we spend five hours travelling, both to training and the game Thursday night at Waverley, we find it’s great mother-daughter time.”
Molly hopes to continue her development program with Storm to see where that next step takes her.
Gippsland Storm’s annual tryouts are in October. See website for details.
