In the Open Women’s Gippsland Soccer League grand final it was Jess Tong who was awarded MVP for among other things, a long running attack and goal in the second half, with coach Daren Dempsey.

All the Dempseys; coach Daren, Gracie, Andrea and Finley, were members of the Gippsland Soccer League premiership winning Women’s team last Sunday.

Oliver Van Venrooy was the MVP for the Under 14 premiers Phillip Island, scoring a hattrick against Drouin in the team’s 5-1 victory.

It was only two minutes into the Senior Men’s final of the Gippsland Soccer League when Inverloch Stars forward Jordan Thomas banged one into the Mirboo North goal from the angle after winning the ball down the side line.

Gippsland Soccer League Under 16 girls premiers Phillip Island defeated Drouin 4-3. Mirboo North won the Senior Reserves 4-3 in extra time over the unlucky Inverloch Stars. In the Open Women’s grand final of the Gippsland Soccer League is was a dominant display by Phillip Island winning 10-1 over the Inverloch Stars. MIRBOO North hosted this year’s Gippsland Soccer League grand finals, but the home team was outplayed by Inverloch in the senior men’s game, the visitors and premiers winning 5-0.
The weather was kind which lead to record crowds on Sunday.
The in-form Inverloch took an early lead and was up 1-0 at half time.

The best dressed soccer fan at the grand finals in Mirboo North last Sunday was Stars’ fan Rhona McCossen.

Mirboo North were not able to repeat the performance of the Reserves earlier in the day, and this time it was Inverloch, who came home strong with a 4-0 second half, taking the cup 5-0.
Mitch Jackson with three goals was awarded the most valuable player.
First up was the under 12s mixed which resulted in Drouin securing their first win of the day against a defiant Leongatha Knights 3-0.
Drouin and Phillip Island went head to head in the Under 14 mixed, Under 16 Mixed and Under 16 Girls.
Drouin were triumphant in the under 16 mixed, while Phillip took out both the Under 14 mixed and Under 16 girls.
Phillip Island under 16 girls were always going to be hard to beat. They are a group of experienced girls who have played together for a number of seasons under coach Andrea Blair Dempsey.
Drouin laid down the challenge with the scores level at half time, but Phillip Island proved too strong in the end winning 4-2.
Most valuable player was awarded to Ruby Whitely from Drouin Dragons.
The Men’s Reserves was always going to be one of the games to watch. Both Mirboo North and Inverloch finished the home and away season with not much between them.
The match was forced into overtime, with scores level at 3-3 at full time. Mirboo North proved too strong winning in overtime 4-3. Patrick Hamilton was named most valuable player.
Inverloch came from third position to secure their shot at the grand final in the Senior Women’s. Phillip Island’s senior women again demonstrated their dominance in women’s soccer with a 10-1 win.
Dani Rozenzwerg scored four goals and Jess Tong three. Jess was also awarded most valuable players.
The Gippsland Soccer League would like to thank Mirboo North for hosting the grand finals, all the supporters, families and friends who braved the cold but were rewarded with some great matches.
Special guest presenters were Cr Meg Edwards from the South Gippsland Shire; Jorgan Crugnale, Labor’s candidate for Bass and Gerry Clarke former European professional soccer player.
