– Korumburra Association hosts 130 teams, 230 games
BASKETBALL is booming in South Gippsland and last weekend, Korumburra was the centre of a beehive of activity when they hosted 130 teams and staged almost 230 games across four venues in two days during the Korumburra Basketball Association’s Annual Junior Tournament.
They came from all over Gippsland for it and there was some high-class play and plenty of thrilling basketball including slam-dunks, mighty blocks and some spine-chilling close contests.
Organisers including KBA President Matt Holmes, Vice President Scott McKenzie and Tournament Coordinator Kate Lindsay could not have been happier with the way the event was run and supported without a hitch all weekend.
“It was a fantastic event, extremely well run by all involved, the competition very good and support, including from our referees, some of whom umpired 10 to 12 games, was great,” said Scott McKenzie afterwards.
“We had 159 games across four venues; at Poowong, Korumburra, Leongatha and Meeniyan on Saturday and another 69 games on Sunday; it was at least as big as our biggest tournament and an indication of the level of interest in the sport.
