POOWONG Preschool is celebrating its 50th birthday this year, and all past and present students, staff and family members are invited to join in the fun.
The big birthday bash will be held at the Poowong Consolidated School Hall (27 Ranceby Road) on Sunday, October 28 and is sure to be a great opportunity to catch up and reflect on the important role the preschool has played in the lives of so many community members.

The Poowong Preschool is celebrating its 50th birthday this Sunday, October 28 at the Poowong Consolidated School Hall (27 Ranceby Road), and you’re all invited.
Lisa Bodman has been teaching at the preschool for the past 15 years and said it had grown and evolved over its lifetime, with ongoing improvements and updates to the building and grounds, and the curriculum.
Recent examples include installing ramps to improve accessibility and adding on a covered back deck area to bring the outdoors in to the classroom all-year round.
Natural play spaces incorporating sustainability projects, such as a vegetable garden, worm farm and compost system, have also become a feature of the curriculum, along with indigenous studies, which has prompted the planting of a new bush tucker garden.
But while the facility and the learning that goes on inside it have seen plenty of updates, Lisa says the heart of Poowong Preschool has remained the same.
“It’s got a really friendly, welcoming atmosphere and a strong sense of community.
“We’ve got great partnerships with places like the library, and whenever we have a fundraiser or an event, people in every age group pitch in to help and support us. It’s always been a place that’s really valued by the community.”
Show your appreciation for this great community organisation by heading to the birthday celebrations from 1.30pm to 3.30pm this Sunday, October 28.
The event will feature an afternoon tea, a virtual tour of the current facility, as well as speeches and photo displays covering the 50-year journey.
