BRETT Tessari is the first councillor born and bred in Wonthaggi who’s gone onto become Bass Coast’s mayor since shire amalgamations in the mid-1990s.
Cr Tessari will lead the shire for at least the next year, following unanimous support from his colleagues at a special meeting last Wednesday.
Cr Tessari, who’s served as deputy mayor in the past two years, was elected with the blessing of outgoing mayor Cr Pamela Rothfield.
He handed Cr Rothfield a bouquet of flowers and thanked the councillor for her dedication to the job.
He also acknowledged other former mayors including Alan Brown, John Fleming, John Duscher, and Neville Goodwin.
