WONTHAGGI is about to experience a construction boom with contracts just weeks away from being signed for the $115 million hospital upgrade.
It’s understood the building team managing the upgrade will be announced in the coming weeks now that the State Government is out of election caretaker mode and is getting on with its promises.
Although the hospital upgrade was budgeted and not an election promise – it’s not official until the first sod’s been turned.
And that should happen next year.
Then the entire project – including a new emergency department, theatres, ward and other upgrades – could be finished by 2022.
That’s what hospital officials are hoping, including Bass Coast Health (BCH) CEO Jan Child.
“Once the building team’s announced, we’ll have to refresh the feasibility study and make sure everything’s right,” Ms Child told the Sentinel-Times.
