LAMB buyer for Wagstaffs and others, Rob Hackett, wasn’t surprised to see prices for lambs at Leongatha markedly down on recent weeks.
He said the dry conditions had finally started to bite locally and the lambs were past their best as a result.
It was an impression that producers couldn’t argue with and the likes of Toora lamb producer David O’Callaghan of Toora was philosophical.
“It wasn’t as good but if you average it out over the season, it’s still a pretty good result,” he said.
Rob Ould of Alex Scott got the sale underway and sold the first pen of lambs for $145 a head, which turned out to be slightly on the higher side of what was offered for varying quality elsewhere.
Lamb prices down as quality drys off

Prices were easier for lambs with buyers including Bob Hackett claiming the quality had started to trail off locally as the dryer conditions finally started to bite. m020419
