I was lucky enough on Saturday night, January 12, to experience one of Australia’s greatest entertainers with James Morrison and band performing at the Wonthaggi Arts and Entertainment Centre.
Here was a performer known as a brilliant trumpet player here in Oz and also overseas, playing also piano, trombone and saxophone (and very, very good) and entertaining the audience with stories of his young days and how he reached the pinnacle of his trade.
I have been to many concerts over the years but this show topped the lot.
At the finish the audience (full house) showed this appreciation of the performance by giving the band a standing ovation which brought the band back for an encore.
Finally, I must point out we were sitting about eight rows from the back but with the restoration of the theatre we never missed a beat – money well spent.
The Wonthaggi Citizens Band on opening the night with six members received the usual applause from the audience.
Laurence Black, Wonthaggi.
What a night!
