KILCUNDA basketballer Zac Mabilia was recently selected to represent Australia Country on a trip to New Zealand at Easter to compete against various international teams.
The selection came after Zac firmly illustrated his skill and prowess on the court with a spectacular performance representing Victoria Country at the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup (ACJBC) in Albury.
It was here that the best kids from regional areas around Australia converged to compete for the title of greatest country team in Australia, with teams such as New South Wales Country, South Australia Country and even New
Zealand teams attending.
Zac first picked up a basketball to play at the age of seven after watching his older brother, and now represents the Korumburra Wildcats in the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) and plays in representative tournaments around the state.
Zac excels at the point guard and shooting guard positions, which he prefers to play “because you get to be a leader on the court and have the ball in your hands a lot… As shooting guard there are lots of plays that you can score from”.
He said he was looking forward to representing Australia Country.
“I’m super excited about the opportunity to play for Australia Country and improve my basketball skills more.”
Zac’s basketball career is filled with highlights, and said his best achievement was the most recent.
“My best memory is winning the gold medal last week at the ACJBC, meaning we had the best under 14 country team in Australia.”
Zac and his family realise that no great feat is accomplished alone and would like to thank the Korumburra Basketball Association for their continued support over the years in helping Zac hone his skills on the basketball court.
