DISTURBING photographs have emerged revealing that the home of a former Korumburra childcare centre is being used as a site for illicit drug use.
Photos sent to the Sentinel-Times by a concerned Korumburra resident last week show the interior of the former Birralee Childcare Centre on Victoria Street is littered with syringes and swabs, suggesting trespassers have been using intravenous drugs on the premises.
“Obviously people have been shooting up in there,” the resident, who did not wish to be named, told the Sentinel-Times after having a “poke around” at the site last week.
Worried that the South Gippsland Shire Council would fail to act in response to the issue, aside from cleaning up the rubbish, the resident hoped speaking out in the media would “put the pressure on” for something to be done with the abandoned building.
“The fact that kids are going in there, using drugs… It’s somewhere they can go to shoot up, and we don’t want that around the town.
“We don’t want places available where they can do that. The owners need to get a move on and pull it down if that’s what’s happening there.”

Just a bit harsh Robert to call the unnamed resident “opinionated ” and “gutless” when all they said was “…..The owners need to get a move on and pull it down if that’s what’s happening there.”.
Note the phrase, “…if that’s what’s happening there”….
If in fact the owners are intending to pull the place down then I would agree the sooner the better.
No I disagree!! The Birralee Childcare Centre owners don’t need to get a move on and pull down the childcare centre. What’s happening is not their fault in the least.
Victoria Policemen need to start patrolling the streets of Korumburra and watching what the ferals, druggies and no-hopers do when the Sun goes down – which is the only time they come out of their filthy residences to get high on drugs or drunk on alcohol or both. I’ve lived on Victoria Street in Korumburra for many years and nobody can tell me this doesn’t happen. My wife and I have seen it happen many times ourselves. So whomever this opinionated unnamed resident is who wants to pressure the buildings owner to demolish it, I think they’re dead wrong and too gutless to say what everybody living on Korumburra knows already. Korumburra has needed cops patrolling the entire lengths of Commercial Street and Victoria Street 7 nights per week for the past several years. If Victoria Police hadn’t spent a million dollars rebuilding the Cop Shop on Bridge Street a few years ago, they would have enough money to pay the wages of such patrolmen. But instead, the residents of Victoria Street like me have to settle for a Cop Shop that’s lit up like a Christmas tree every evening with nobody in attendance in it. You call that police protection and surveillance? – I don’t nor do any of my neighbors!
