THE Optus 2019 Victorian Country Long Course Swimming Championships were recently held during the Australia Day long weekend. The event was hosted at the Warragul Leisure Centre by Gippsland Swimming. Thirty-six clubs and over 600 competitors from country Victoria swam throughout the three days. The SGB team performed extremely well despite the challenging weather conditions, from extreme heat reaching up to 42 degrees to thunder storms and high winds. It was an amazing effort by all swimmers, with SGB finishing fourth overall and with a combined team score of 800 points. Congratulations to Traralgon Swimming Club for winning the Country Champs, second-place Geelong Swimming Club and third-place Bendigo East Swimming Club. The club would like to give special mention to individual medal winners: Nathan Foote, Lily Robinson, Josh Wight, Mostyn Lumsden, Nicolette Wight, Sophie McKenzie, Ben McConachy and Cooper Quaife. SGB also saw outstanding results by the 12 and under girls’ relay team, winning silver medals in both their 4 x 50m Freestyle and Medley races. The 14 and under boys’ 4x50m Freestyle and Medley, the 17 and over boys’ 4 x 50m Medley and the Open 4x100m Free relays all took home bronze medals. SGB would like to thank Gippsland Swimming and fellow Gippsland Clubs, Warragul Water Warriors, Traralgon Swimming Club, Morwell Swimming Club, Moe Swimming Club, East Gippsland Waterdragons and Sale Swimming Club for a successful 2019 Victorian Country Long Course Championships.
