EVENTING riders flocked to the annual Meeniyan Pony Club Horse Trials held at the Stony Creek Racing and Rec Reserve on Sunday, February 17.
Pony Club and Open competitors came from as far Swifts Creek, Balnarring and Oaklands to test the skills of horse and rider over the three disciplines of dressage, cross country and show jumping.
Recent local rain meant the riding surface was in great condition.
This was a qualifying event for the Pony Club State Horse Trials Championships in May and part of the West Gippsland Zone Horse Trials series.
The cross-country course was to height and quite technical to ride, having quite an impact on the final scores.
Spectators had a great view of all the jumping action with the facility being quite open and having many vantage points to watch the thrills of cross country and show-jumping.
Event secretary Carolyn Degaris said she “was very proud of how fantastic the venue looked after many hours of work by members and volunteers to prepare for the day, and that the club would also like to acknowledge the former Berrys Creek PC committee for their donation, enabling the purchase of new XC jump numbers”.
Meeniyan Pony Club was appreciative of the many businesses who supported this event, resulting in the BrownWigg/Horse Fix raffle, Maree’s Equine Therapy Best Dressage, and the prizes awarded to the winners and placegetters of each grade.
Thank you to our judges Ellen Wilson, Lisa Hocking, Lisa Browning, Rainy Streeter-Gillard, Jaslyn Streeter-Gillard, and Cross-Country course controller Deb Collins who is a fantastic supporter of local clubs and riders in general.
The next event to be held by the club is a Winter Woolies Gymkhana on Sunday, June 30.
