AFTER a string of immensely successful years, the Leongatha Show ‘n’ Shine has become a staple of the local culture, consistently managing to entertain vast hordes of car enthusiasts and will be hosted again by the Rotary Club of Leongatha this year on Sunday, March 3 at the Leongatha Velodrome.
However, the organising committee refuses to allow the event’s persistent success to force them into a state of relaxed satisfaction, as they continue to look for ways to improve the event without straying from its individuality and what created its popularity in the first place.
With an added 12 food vans, fresh produce stands and a petting zoo among the newest features of the day, one could say the Show ‘n’ Shine is adopting more of an inclusive approach, providing activities for a range of audiences and age demographics.
“It’s becoming more of a family day, not so much hard edge motoring only” said chairman of the Show ‘n’ Shine committee, Jim McNiven regarding the most recent innovations.
But if you’re a passionate motor enthusiast, fear not, as Jim also stated that the committee felt it extremely important to not alter this aspect of the show, as it is essentially the cornerstone of the event’s success.
“Adding more food vendors and some other things make it more of a family event, but the Show ‘n’ Shine aspect is unchanged because it’s been so successful… we are only adding things, not removing them.”
There will still be an abundance of cars belonging to a range of categories on display at the event, with 26 awards up for grabs for car owners, including best hot rod, best paint job, best custom vehicle and entry of the show, just to name a few.
Maguire’s are also supporting the event by providing a gift pack for each winner, who will also receive a trophy for their efforts.
Award presentations will be held at 12.30pm.
The annual swap meet will also be on the day, with the gates opening at 8am for the public.
Another feature is the crayfish raffle, with tickets being $2 each or three for $5, with prizes being drawn throughout the day.
The Show ‘n’ Shine event will run from 9am to 1.30pm with adult entry costing $5 and family entry costing $15.
So be sure to clear your schedule and come down to experience a fun-filled day for the whole family.
