WONTHAGGI cyclist Alex Dunbar came in second at the Tour of East Gippsland three-stage tour over May 4 and 5.
Racing in the elite Men’s B category, the 17-year-old won the first stage of the event in tremendous fashion.
Breaking away from the pack on the second last lap of the 84.5km stage, Dunbar rode to a clear victory.
The second stage of day one was a 20km individual time trial, Dunbar came tenth, 3:45mins behind winner Paul Speed from Hawthorn.
On the second day Dunbar came in fifth, just 22secs off the pace, Speed was 12secs behind him.
Dunbar finished second on general classification 1.45mins behind Speed, who finished with 5.23:14 hours.
Also in the grade, Leongatha cyclist Oliver McLean came in 5:22mins behind Speed, earning him eighth position.
