FIGHTING at the Arafura Games in Darwin, Charles Joma has battled his way through three fights to claim the 69kg welter weight championship.
In his three fights, he fought; good, better, best, according to coach Scott Williamson.
His championship fight saw him knock the contender Tom Hanns for three standing eight counts.
The level of Charles’ fitness and training proving too much for his opponents as the busy weekend schedule worked to his advantage.
Though Charles’ line-up was primarily Australians, the games are contested by international athletes that are at the peak of their divisions.
The Arafura Games also included events catering to Paralympic classes.
The Arafura Games featured 17 sport disciplines, including, athletics, badminton, basketball, pro hustle, beach volleyball, boxing, football, indoor volleyball, muaythai, netball, sailing, sepak takraw, squash, swimming, table tennis, tennis and weightlifting; with an integrated para program for athletics, swimming, tennis and table tennis.
The games are every two years in Darwin.
