This is to thank all of the South Gippsland residents for attending the civic dinner launch of the Freemasons Armitage House Appeal on the 12th of June.
Everybody there thoroughly enjoyed themselves and had a very social evening indeed and the organisers were astounded by the level of support for such a worthy cause.
Thanks to yourselves and the generosity of the Victorian Freemasons Foundation as well as the Wonthaggi Workmen’s Club we were able to raise $30,000.00.
This was only the beginning of a campaign set to continue for 12 months so please look out for ongoing events across South Gippsland.
In the meantime you can donate by several methods:
1. Call Bass Coast Health on 5671 3333 and donate specifying Freemasons Armitage House Appeal.
2. Make cheques payable to Bass Coast Health endorsed Freemasons Armitage House Appeal.
3. In-person at reception.
4. Make a bequest.
Armitage House is a high care facility attached to Bass Coast Health and it is there that end of life services are dispensed.
This generally is known as palliative care including pastoral care where patients receive compassion, respect, reassurance, love, calming and eventually medication, from the nurses (angels) as well as the auxiliary and volunteer staff.
This loving environment also embraces family and loved ones at such an emotional time.
Armitage House though is tired and behind the times. Funding will go towards refurbishing facilities such as more private rooms and ensuites, etc.
There would hardly be a person reading this who has not been touched by the aforementioned experience and as for me, I believe in angels when the time is right for me.
Ken Barnes, Inverloch.
