What a wonderful and heart-warming letter from Kay Setches recounting her treatment from Bass Coast Health in general and Armitage House in particular.
I have had first-hand experience with the palliation as well as rehabilitation services provided by the remarkable staff right here at our own local hospital and fully endorse Kay’s remarks.
It is now well known that State Government funding will see an expansion of our hospital to become a Sub Regional facility which will be in high demand as our population is set to expand rapidly, however there is no funding for Armitage House which is old and tired.
The hospital CEO Jan Child is currently working with a small group of local Freemasons from the Powlett Lodge in Wonthaggi to fund improvements to facilities in Armitage House and although the extent of the renovations is still to be determined, over $50,000 has been raised since the launch of the campaign last June.
There will be fundraising activities during the coming months and a number of service groups are supporting the cause.
Every dollar raised has the potential to be matched by The United Grand Lodge of Victorian Freemasons.
Donations can be made in person to the hospital endorsed ‘Freemasons Armitage House Appeal’, in the Armitage House wishing well provided by the Inverloch Men’ Shed, as well as a number of shops around Wonthaggi and Inverloch.
We are an ageing population and the wisest of us knows not when we will be in need of the services provided by these wonderful people.
Thank you Jan, Christine, Colin in the kitchen and all of you.
Ken Barnes, Inverloch.
