It was disappointing not to see any Remembrance Day markers with poppies on them at the Wonthaggi Cemetery last Monday, to remember our veterans who are buried in the cemetery that served our country, so that you and I could live a free, safe life.
I would have thought that after ANZAC Day having no remembrance markers you might have changed your mind about the placing of the remembrance markers with poppies for November.
Wonthaggi Cemetery Trust/Bass Coast Shire Council must be the only cemetery within the South Gippsland area that has banned wooden crosses/grave markers from being placed at the Wonthaggi and San Remo cemeteries.
Not even the Australian flag was hoisted for Remembrance Day.
Because of your decision to ban all crosses/grave markers, Wonthaggi residents are unable to honour our veterans at the cemetery.
I hope you feel very ashamed at yourself.
Noelene Lyons, Wonthaggi.
Council should honour veterans
