FISH Creek superstar Sam Flanders has been scooped up pick 11 by the Gold Coast Suns in the 2019 AFL draft.
With Flanders still on the board after the opening ten picks, the Suns packaged picks 17 and 22 and received pick 11 and 62 in return from Carlton.
Though a little surprised by the club, Sam is looking forward to the warm weather.
“Coming in I had no idea Gold Coast was going to select me, I heard rumours from my manager other clubs were interested and when they passed on me, I was clueless,” Sam said.
“Then when Gold Coast selected me I was extremely excited and couldn’t wait to get up there and get started,” he said.
After a successful season at Gippsland Power, Sam’s explosive talent peaked playing against some of the biggest names in the league.
Sam kicked four goals in the second term playing against the Oakleigh Chargers and top two draft picks Noah Anderson and Matt Rowell.
Sam will be joining the two fellow Victorians at the Suns.
“The club has been very welcoming, I head up there today (Saturday) and we have a barbecue with the team tomorrow to get to know everyone,” Sam said.
