BERRY’S Creek Gourmet Cheese has been awarded Grand Champion Cheese at the 2020 Australian Grand Dairy Awards.
Judged by a 12-strong panel of Australia’s top dairy judges, Berry’s Creek was recognised for their Oak Blue, taking out the highest accolade in the country.
The Oak Blue is known for its multi-dimensional flavour, combining a smooth creamy texture with heavy veining resulting in an extremely well-balanced cheese.
“The Australian Grand Dairy Awards are significant to our company as it is the platform that acknowledges the best of the best dairy products in Australia,” said Cheryl Hulls of Berry’s Creek Gourmet Cheese.
“To be a finalist is something to be very proud of and to feel secure in the knowledge that you are doing something right.”
Oak Blue is described as a “full mouth assault on the senses” and is aged for three months.
Also, Prom Country Cheese won the Champion Goat/Sheep/Buffalo Milk Cheese for its Venus Blue cheese.
Based in Moyarra, the sheep dairy farm is run by second generation cheesemakers Burke and Bronwyn Brandon.
They use pasture-fed ewes which are milked seasonally and it’s a model Landcare farm managed sustainably with no chemical sprays or fertilisers.
Celebrating its 21st year, the Australian Grand Dairy Awards are the premier dairy awards within the Australian dairy industry – celebrating and promoting the world class quality and excellence of Australia’s top cheeses, ice creams, milks, butter, gelato and more.
