THIS weekend, Victoria’s best up and coming junior surfers will descend on Phillip Island for the opening round of the 2020 Woolworths Victorian Junior Surfing Title, kick-starting a trio of events that will also head to the Mornington Peninsula later this month and then conclude at Jan Juc at the start of May.

The series will see the best junior surfers in the state compete for a shot at taking out each event, gaining strong results to go towards representing their state in the Australian Junior Surfing Titles to be held towards the back-end of 2020.

Surfers from U/14s to U/18s spanning across six divisions will battle it out for state championship honours in what is going to be an exciting affair in potentially some good conditions.

Surfing Victoria High Performance Coach Cahill Bell-Warren is very excited to hopefully see a new brigade of promising junior surfers come through the ranks of the Victorian junior series once again this year.

“The Victorian Junior Titles is always an amazing event to showcase the state’s best juniors across three different locations year round,” said Cahill.

“Every year we see many new faces really advance their surfing through the tri-event series and I cannot wait to see who will shine in this year’s junior rounds.”

The ability to be so mobile with our event locations on Phillip Island is a real asset, where we can decide where to run according to swell and wind forecasts. Fingers crossed we will luck in this weekend for Round 1 of the event series”. Bell-Warren said.

An array of state champions will be competing including reigning U/18 boys state champion Codie Jeffrey (Newhaven), 2019 U/16 girls state champion Mia Huppatz (Jan Juc) as well as Sara Hickson (Rye), who will be one of the surfers leading the charge in the U/14 girls after taking out several event wins in this last few years of the series.

Stay tuned for news on the event location with updates to be posted on the Surfing Victoria social media platforms.
