Several years ago I was a part-time test driver at the proving grounds and as we are now told that this facility is to be closed due to the exit of GMH from Australia, I think it would be a great gift to Victoria if these facilities were donated to our community.
This would be a fitting gesture of GMH in view of the support it has received from us over many years.
This facility is very well suited to bicycle activities both racing and leisure across all variations such as road race, MTB, cyclocross, etc.
The terrain is both mixed and challenging, sealed and dirt, and the safety aspect of getting cycle activities off-road cannot be overstated.
I believe any environmental issues would be negligible and would cost very little to achieve a world-class sport and leisure cycling venue, and cycling tourism will boost our economy.
Many of you will know me as a keen local cyclist who suffered a nasty accident and it was doubtful if I could recover sufficiently to resume my passion, however, I am riding again and a facility such as the aforementioned would be most welcome and very well utilised.
We should now lobby our politicians to achieve this.
