LAST Saturday, February 29, was an ideal day for the staging of the pennant finals.
In a unique situation there were four clubs which each had two teams competing.
At both venues a large crowd of supporters and interested spectators were treated to some high-class bowling and in most cases close results.
At Inverloch, Division 1 was anyone’s game until the last few ends.
The final result was Phillip Island Blue defeated Leongatha 74 shots to 71.
At Wonthaggi, Divisions 2, 3, 4 and 5 did battle on their new synthetic green.
In Division 2, Leongatha were the winners over Inverloch Blue 76 shots to 53.
In Division 3, it was another close game with Korumburra defeating Mirboo North 71 shots to 68.
Division 4 saw youth versus experience with the young Mirboo North team playing Inverloch. At 75 ends, the score was tied with an extra end having to be played, Inverloch coming out on top by one shot.
Interestingly, this was the third match in the finals series where an extra end had to be played.
In Division 5, Toora got away to a good start with Korumburra unable to catch them – the score 88 shots to 65.
Altogether an absorbing grand final event!
Special thanks to the venues Inverloch and Wonthaggi and to the umpires Ian, Lorraine and Anne.
