It’s not exactly Pebble Beach but Kevin Green is making do with his front yard.

A PLUMBER by trade and a teacher by design, Kevin Green of Inverloch is nothing if not resourceful.

And he wasn’t letting the ‘stay-at-home’ and ‘social distancing’ rules of the COVID-19 pandemic get him down over the Easter break.

As well as completing a list of jobs around the house, he got his exercise too, with a bucket of golf balls out the front of his Powlett Street home, where there’s a nice, long yard.

“I’ve got a golf cart in the shed at the Wonthaggi Golf Course and I tend to go in there on my own for a game when I feel like it but I wouldn’t have had a hit for four weeks.

“I’m not playing that well these days, back to 27 where I started but I did get down to eight at one stage. That would be 30 years ago.

Originally from Brunswick West, he built a house at East Keilor with his wife Beverley but in the 1970s he decided to do a teaching qualification and ended up at the Leongatha Technical School, under Irving Stephens, prior to teaching at the Wonthaggi High School which he did for 20-plus years.

“We’ve been at Inverloch now for 50 years,” said Kevin.

In the absence of any organised sport, Kevin Green is our ‘Sports Star of the Week’. Have you got a nomination? Send stories, photos and videos to news@sgst.com.au or post them on the Sentinel-Times Facebook page.
