BCAL is now a part of the Be Connected network – a federal government initiative to help get every Australian online.

The project recognises the fact that being connected is more than important than ever in these times, but it can be very confusing for some people.

One of the first sessions offered is a special workshop to tell you all you need to know about the COVIDSafe app. The workshop will be this Wednesday, May 20, at 1pm.

There is also a weekly Q&A session on Monday evenings at 6.30pm where people can bring their device in to get help with anything they might be having trouble with. Some topics which have come up recently have included identifying scam emails, resetting an Android tablet, and listening to music with Spotify.

Plus, it’s all free!

Wonthaggi Community Garden

Outdoor recreation restrictions have eased and that means up to 10 people can now visit the garden at one time, but smaller groups are much more likely throughout the cooler months.

Volunteers have worked to open up the garden by creating views in from the street and sightlines onto the Bass Coast Adult Learning campus and grounds.

Now passing walkers can peek over the hedge and see what’s growing, and BCAL visitors can stop and chat to the garden team.

Volunteers hope the improved access will generate community interest and support for the garden’s activities.

Wonthaggi U3A

‘Coming out of COVID’ will be the lead topic of the 11th annual U3A Presidents Briefing which will be held this Wednesday via online video conference.

Speakers will discuss actions taken to cope with the lockdown and other conditions of the virus emergency, how local organisations are anticipating to start up again, the opportunities that have come from the situation and what ongoing changes there might be to U3A activities.

These discussions will inform the reopening of U3A classes and future directions.
