VICTORIA Police conducted 854 spot checks at homes, businesses and non-essential services over a 24-hour period to ensure people were following COVID-19 rules, as part of Operation Sentinel.

In the 24 hours to 11pm on Friday, May 8, police issued 61 fines.

Examples of breaches that resulted in fines over the 24-hour period included:

  • Gathering of 11 people at a park.
  • Six males gathered to drink alcohol in a public place.
  • Multiple people gathering in private residences.
  • Multiple people including criminal offences, including theft and drug-related offences.

Since March 21, police have conducted a total of 40,810 spot checks as part of this operation.
