GIPPSLAND South MP Danny O’Brien wants the Victorian government to fund CFA, tourism and highway projects as part of a COVID-19 recovery package.

He said Gippsland infrastructure projects should be high on the list of the government’s plans to stimulate local economies.

“There are a number of projects that I have been campaigning for, for a number of years, that fit neatly into the state government’s $2.7 billion announcement to create jobs and stimulate local economies,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The Andrews’ Labor government has turned its back on Gippsland fire brigades and CFA volunteers over the last few years and failed to fund the urgently needed station upgrades at Mirboo North, Foster and Yarram.

“These stations would be highly suitable for this funding, would deliver a local construction dividend for Gippsland and, most importantly, would much better serve the needs of our CFA volunteers.”

Mr O’Brien said funding “should be found for the proposed viewing platform at Agnes Falls” as well as improvements to the South Gippsland, Strzelecki and Hyland Highways.
