A NEW podcast all about musical theatre is now available thanks to three passionate performers.

‘Showdown’, available on Soundcloud, was a passion project started during the COVID-19 lockdown by Sentinel-Times’ journalist Shelby Brooks, and co-hosts Zoe Reid and Oliver Thomson.

The three met while performing in an amateur musical theatre show in 2016.

“The three of us would always have these in-depth conversations about musicals we had seen, or soundtracks we had listened to,” Oliver said.

“So, we thought we should record them for anyone interested in the arts!”

Each week the three co-hosts dissect and discuss a different Broadway musical.

“It’s not supposed to be serious and we certainly aren’t experts,” Shelby said.

“We enjoy having a laugh and learning more about these shows, and we hope people listening can laugh along as well.”

Showdown is four episodes in, already having covered musicals such as Little Shop of Horrors and Kinky Boots.

“Every episode is different,” Zoe said.

“We talk about musicals we love, some we hate, the movie versions and stage show versions, and so much more in a super fun way.”

And you don’t have to be a musical theatre superfan to listen.

“Anyone remotely interested in theatre will love Showdown, as we discuss everything from performances and soundtracks, to costumes and set design,” Oliver said.
