BASS Coast Shire Council CEO Ali Wastie has confirmed the Cowes to Stony Point car ferry project has been discontinued, pending further discussions with the state government.
Council was to contribute $120,000 to a feasibility study to progress the car ferry business case, a major initiative under the 2019/20 Council Plan.
However, a “delay” in getting an additional $80,0000 in state government funding has resulted in the project’s discontinuation, Ms Wastie reported at the May ordinary council meeting.
Council’s resources have been redirected to COVID-19 response and recovery initiatives.
Mayor Cr Brett Tessari recently wrote to Premier Daniel Andrews seeking the full funding of $200,000 for the feasibility study, Ms Wastie said.
