BASS Coast Shire Council is seeking feedback from the community to help shape the future of Phillip Island’s Smiths Beach.

Public consultation will take place throughout June and will consider the improvements needed to help strengthen, protect and support the longevity of the town and its popular stretch of surf beach, the council said last week.

Feedback received during the consultation period will help council develop the Smiths Beach Town Plan, which will aim to enhance the experience of residents, as well as protect the unique vegetation, wildlife and coastline environments, according to the council.

Community input is being sought on a number of initiatives, such as land use changes, infrastructure delivery and activation ideas.

“It is really important that improvements made to the town address the needs of the community, while protecting the natural environment, so that’s why we need your feedback,” said Mayor Cr Brett Tessari.

“This is your chance to have a significant influence on the future of one of Phillip Island’s iconic beach townships,” Cr Tessari concluded.
