A FUNDRAISING campaign for the redevelopment of the Mirboo North Swimming Pool has more than tripled its $10,000 target.

Friends of the Mirboo North Swimming Pool group were overwhelmed by the response to their Buy a Tile campaign which has raised $32,000.

The pool, which operated as a local swimming spot for more than 100 years, is due to open for the 2020/21 summer season and will boast a nine-lane 25-metre pool, a children’s pool and splash park in the beautiful bush setting.

Treasurer Fred Couper said the group was surprised to receive donations from all over Australia and even internationally.

“It goes to show that many people hold the memories of this pool close to them, and regard it as a special place, even if they don’t live here at the moment,” Mr Couper said.

“We will now consult with the architect to decide the placement of these tiles. We want something that’s visually exciting and will attract attention while not becoming dated.”

The Mirboo North and District Community Foundation is matching donations up to $100,000 through its challenge fund.

Executive officer Ruth Rogan said the foundation had now matched more than $87,000 of community donations from the Buy a Tile campaign and other donations and fundraisers.

“This leaves $13,000 more to match, and we will have doubled the $100,000 raised to $200,000,” Ms Rogan said.

Friends of the pool secretary Jodie Pincinci said the personal ‘Buy a Tile’ campaign was now closed, however, business sponsorships are still open, with three packages starting at $1000. Payment plans are available.

“We are offering businesses colourful tiles that will pop-out in colour on the featured honour wall, rustic benches and picnic tables with business names engraved, special acknowledgements at our grand opening and rolling advertisements on our monitors for at least two summers,” Ms Pincini said.
