I see that the administrators for the South Gippsland Shire Council have voted to only publish councillors’ expenses annually now.
The community will now only have access to a lump sum at the end of the year where questionable expenses may be long ago or conveniently hidden. l suppose this is part of the much vaunted openness and transparency they espouse.
Of course, the administrators’ expenses are not made public because they are deemed to be “employees”.
In the past we were advised to view council as a business and we could see ourselves as the owners, certainly we pay to run this “business”.
So, it would be fair enough that those who pay to have information on how much employees might cost us on cars, phones, computers, accommodation, training etc, etc.
It seems once again our (disgraced Minister Somyurek appointed) administrators will talk about openness and transparency then do the opposite.
