This week, August 31 to September 5, is Legacy Week.
Under normal circumstances, members of South Gippsland Legacy would be out and about in our local supermarkets, selling merchandise and raising money for the organisation.
Because of the virus, we are unable to do that. Instead, we are inviting members of the community to make a donation, with tax deductible status. If you wish to do so, please ring either myself, Jane Ross, on 0498 064 248 or our treasurer Gaye Carias on 0416 296 927 to discuss the best way of doing this.
South Gippsland Legacy cares for just over 230 war widows living in an area stretching from Yanakie to Phillip Island. We endeavour to be a cheery, useful and supportive presence in their lives and they, in turn, offer the wisdom of their years and the occasional welcome cheek!
When we return to post-virus normality, we Legatees will continue to host our widows at film days, lunches, concerts, monthly meetings and on bus trips.
Legacy Week always begins with a special non-denominational service during which both Legatees and our widows have the opportunity to remember loved ones who have served their country. Sadly, that cannot take place.
Those of us at South Gippsland Legacy would like our widows to know they are much in our hearts and thoughts – especially this week.
Legatee Jane Ross, San Remo, president, South Gippsland Legacy.
